(According to PetroTimes) PETROCONs is one of the veteran units within the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), with more than 40 years of “endeavoring” across the country, from offshore areas to inland regions.

Party Secretary and Director of PVC-MS, Phan Khắc Mẫn: With more than 40 years of experience across all construction sites from offshore to remote areas, PETROCONs has gathered hundreds of highly qualified and experienced officers and specialists.

Having gone through many ups and downs, the Petroleum Construction Joint Enterprise (the predecessor of PETROCONs – established on September 14, 1983) was assigned by the Vietnam General Department of Oil and Gas with “senior officers” to take over, gradually overcoming initial difficulties, implementing changes in management structure, directing and operating methods, ensuring progress and quality of the industry’s projects.

By 1995, the enterprise was renamed the Petroleum Engineering and Construction Company (PVECC). With support from the General Department of Oil and Gas and strengthened internal unity, the company successfully completed more than 20 fixed drilling rig jackets and over 10 DK1 platform blocks (floating houses) on the southern continental shelf and the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago between 1990 and 1997, contributing to national defense and maritime security. The company also successfully constructed and installed a gas pipeline system from the Bach Ho (White Tiger) field, spanning 100 km offshore and 20 km onshore, to operate the Ba Ria Power Plant, affirming the key role of the petroleum construction industry in industrial installation—from drilling rig jackets and pipeline systems to DK floating platform clusters—contributing to protecting Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone.

Afterward, the corporation was successively renamed from the PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation to the Vietnam Petroleum Construction Corporation (PVC), and in 2022 it was renamed PETROCONs. Today, after 41 years of formation and development, PETROCONs has affirmed its reputation and outstanding capabilities in major projects of both the oil and gas industry and the nation. From the onshore Integrated Service Base in Vung Tau to gas pipeline projects from Long Hai to the Phu My, My Xuan, and Dong Nai industrial zones; national key projects such as the Phu My Fertilizer Plant, Ca Mau Gas-Power-Fertilizer Complex, Dung Quat Oil Refinery, and Vung Ang I Thermal Power Plant. Most recently, as the EPC general contractor for the Thai Binh II Thermal Power Plant (inaugurated on April 27, 2023), PETROCONs has become one of the few Vietnamese contractors capable of assuming the role of general contractor for a large-scale power source project with one of the most complex configurations in the world.

The PVC-MS construction base is bustling with activities for building wind turbine foundations and topsides for a project in India.
